5 easy ways to eat more healthily every day

Even though we all know we should eat more healthily, finding the time to cook a nutritious meal or make a low fat packed lunch can be tough. If you’re run off of your feet at work or at university, eating well can be all but impossible.

However, by making a few easy changes to your diet it is possible to eat a little better every meal time. Easy and affordable, these changes could revolutionise your diet and make you feel happier, healthier and more energised every day.

1. Swap white for brown

In general, white foods have much less nutritional value than their brown equivalents. White bread has had all of the fibre and roughage taken out of it and is packed full of sugar instead. Though it will help to fill you up, it won’t add anything beneficial to your diet.

Swapping white bread, sugar, pasta and rice for their brown alternatives will dramatically increase the amount of vitamins and minerals in your diet and help you to feel fuller for longer.

2. Invest in a smaller plate

If you’re trying to lose weight, an easy way to cut the calories is to ditch your family sized platter and opt for a smaller plate instead.

You’ll still feel like you’re getting a full meal, but you’ll automatically eat a little less every day, helping you to reduce your calorie intake and meet your weight loss goals.

3. Opt for H2O

Fizzy drinks, and even some fruit juices, contain a huge amount of sugar and almost no nutritional value. Cutting them out of your diet and choosing water instead will help you get rid of all those empty calories, improve your complexion and help you to avoid lifestyle related diseases like type II diabetes, heart diseases and obesity.

4. Stay away from salt

Though it may be tasty, salt is pretty bad for us and eating too much can lead to a range of health problems in later life. Gradually cutting down on the amount of salt you eat will make cutting it out a little easier. If you reduce your intake steadily every week, you’ll soon be back down to healthy levels.

5. Drink lots of water

Water has a huge range of health benefits. From helping our bodies complete a range of daily functions, to helping us concentrate and improving our memories, H2O is one of life’s essential elements.
