Iconic US Road Trips
Whether you have a few months, a few weeks or even a few days to spare, jetting off to the U.S, hiring a car and hitting the road is a greatway to make the most of your time off. Made famous by countless Hollywood films, a US road trip is on every serious traveller’s bucket list.
If you’re searching for an adventure to fill your uni holiday or an unforgettable way to spend your gap year, setting off on a road trip adventure could be just what you’re looking for.
West coast of California
The west coast of the U.S, and California in particular, is breath taking. The water is bright blue, the sand white and the beaches are quiet and secluded. What’s more, you’ll be able to break your west coast road trip with stops in iconic cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.
Itineraries can take anywhere from one week to a couple of months and the more time you have, the more you’ll see.
Head inland for a visit to Las Vegas or Palm Springs for some retro Americana or spend a few days in Big Sur or Yosemite to get a little closer to nature.
New York to LA
If you have more time and a bigger budget, a road trip across the entire country is a great way to see America.
The route you take will depend on what you want to see along the way. Stick to the north of the country for wooded mountains, lakes, wild vistas and empty valleys. Go across the middle for vast plains, small towns and wide open skies or head south to experience the unique charm of the southern United States.
Look out for special deals on one-way car hire to avoid the costs involved in driving across the country. A lot of rental companies need to move vehicles from east to west and will give you a great deal on rental if you move the car at the right time.
The southern states can feel like a separate country at times and a trip to this unique area will be an experience in itself.
Visit New Orleans, San Antonio, Austin and Nashville to see the best that the south has to offer, stopping off in small towns along the way to sample local cuisine and southern hospitality.
