Top five study tips

Though most of us can’t wait for the days to get longer and spring to roll around again, students across the UK will be dreading the return of hot weather as it means only one thing: exam season.

If you’re getting ready for your GCSEs, A Levels or university exams and are struggling to remember those all-important nuggets of information, here are five top study tips that will help you nail your exams and achieve your goals.

1. Discover your learning style

Everyone learns differently. Finding out what kind of learner you are will help you study more efficiently and ensure you can recall the facts when necessary.

Auditory learners pick up information by listening, visual learners do best if they have diagrams, pictures and illustrations and kinaesthetic learners need to be physically involved in the learning process.

2. Remove distractions

Turn the radio off, switch your smartphone to silent and shut yourself in a room well away from your family. The fewer noises and distractions there are, the easier it will be to concentrate and to retain the information you’re studying.

3. Set yourself breaks

No one can study all day so remember to take plenty of breaks and to get away from your desk and your computer screen. Setting an alarm on your phone and limiting your study sessions can also help you to stay motivated and focused when you are hard at it.

4. Reward yourself

Whether it’s a cup of tea, a slice of cake or a night out with friends, it’s important to reward yourself at the end of a busy study session.

Try setting yourself a goal for each day and rewarding yourself when you achieve that goal. If you need more motivation, you could try setting a goal for each individual study session, rewarding yourself for your hard work every hour or so.

5. App it up

There are loads of apps out there now that are specifically designed to help students study. Ask your teachers or lecturers if there are any that they would recommend and talk to other students to find out which apps they’re using as a study aid.

By getting organised and staying focused, you can boost your brainpower and make the most of your study time. With exams just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to get into good habits and ace those exams.
